Carl E. Smith

Welcome friends,

I am a multidisciplinary arts professional with a 25-year career that spans fine art, design, and education sectors. My primary goal is to promote discovery, reflection, and progress by celebrating creativity and exploring the potential of art as an accessible, essential, and transformational aspect of life.

While my own diverse work as an artist and designer has been rewarding, establishing creative platforms in support of others has been one of my most gratifying pursuits. My collaborators and clients include artists, designers, athletes, apparel and accessory brands, snowboard manufacturers, museums, and academic institutions, to name a few. Eternally optimistic, so are the people I work with.

Information

In my roles as a gallery and museum design director, I have organized and designed influential exhibitions, participated in global art fairs, and produced immersive art events over the past two decades. As a creative director, I have developed and led branding, multi-platform content, and visual design systems for international clients across various industries. My work embodies a commitment to advocating for the humanities, driven by a mindful, holistic approach that blends interdisciplinary creative engagement with social insight and experimentation.

Currently, I work as the director of design at Laguna Art Museum and serve as a commissioner on the City of Laguna Beach Arts Commission.
